Maintenance
Spend more time sailing, while we handle the tiresome side of boating
Owning a boat sometimes feels like a list of chores with a handful of glorious days on the water that, somehow, make it worthwhile. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We can help tick off the work on the never-ending list of jobs that come with boat ownership. Why let those jobs infringe on the time you could be out on the water?
There’s no need to use up your boating time waiting for a dry day to re-bed the windows, chainplates, or leaky deck fitting when we can do it for you, at a time that’s convenient to you. It’s easy to forget the time when we don’t use our boats, when we’re at work or on holiday or off for a week with friends, for example. If required, we can collect your yacht from her berth or mooring, lift and scrub her, and return her afterwards. We’ll handle it all.
Let us take care of those winter chores
From antifouling to winterising engines, replacing anodes and removing sails, at the end of the season, the devil finds work for boat owners, idle or otherwise. Here at Falmouth Yacht Services, we have hard standing for over 200 yachts, and once ashore, your yacht is perfectly placed to have any maintenance work done. If your boat is with us for the winter months, no job is too small.
Every yacht requires antifouls, so whether you’ve invested in copper coat and the hull need a light abrasion, or you use conventional antifoul and it has a build up that need removing, talk to us, we can have the old antifoul off within a few hours and you won’t have to lift a finger or don PPE to spend hours scraping, sanding, masking, and painting.
When spring arrives, and your launch date approaches, we can get your yacht looking her best with a hull polish, fresh antifoul, de-winterise the engine and ensure everything is working as it should so you’re not left with any unexpected surprises on the first sail of the year.
Keep on top of engine service intervals
Most boat owners aren’t skilled mechanics, and if you’re not, don’t worry, we are. We cover all aspects of engine maintenance from an annual service (oil, filters, engine anode, impeller, etc.) to full engine rebuilds and replacement. We can keep on top of any sail-drive maintenance schedule and replace seals at the recommended intervals. Likewise, we can maintain all parts of a conventional drive system, from engine alignment and stern gland (repacking or bellows replacement) to cutless bearing replacement. We can clean, service, and regrease all brands of folding and feathering propellers, and, of course, we can replace anodes.
Regardless of whether your engine’s head gasket needs changing, its valve clearance needs adjusting, or your gearbox seal is leaking oil into a once-pristine engine bay, we’re here to help.
We’re here to ensure your sailing is safe
Whether a pre-purchase or insurance survey has highlighted an issue or you’d like us to go through your boat, we want to make sure your yacht is safe. So much can be overlooked. Before you know it, ten years of ownership have passed, your rigging needs replacing, the instruments are looking dated, and you’re starting to eye up the cost of a new sail. Meanwhile, out-of-date gas hoses, missing split pins in rigging, defective heater exhausts, weak seacocks, or corroded keel bolts get overlooked. But left unchecked or poorly maintained, these can be deadly. We’re here to make sure your boat is safe and enjoyable as possible. If there is anything you’re concerned about on your boat, please contact us.
Boat maintenance need not be scary or a chore, and we’re here to make sure it’s neither. Contact us today to find out how we can help you.
